I haven’t yet finished this site but it’s for people who play online war games such as Battlefield 2, 1943 etc... I haven’t yet finished the main concept behind the site but it’s nearing completion.
BATTLEFIELD NATIONS
I modified a few bits and pieces, created my own plugins and snippets that run the AJAX functions on the site. All the forms on the site use AJAX and all info is stored in customised DB tables.
I have only tested the site with IE7, IE8, FF3, Chrome, Opera and Safari so I don’t know how it is with IE6... Reason why I’m not overly bothered about older browsers is that the games that are covered in the community are relatively new and require a half decent PC to run. Also most gamers are up to date with using newer browsers etc...
Anyway I have created snippets and plugins that allow a already registered user to then create their own Team which creates a webuser group, 2 pages, 1 public to recruit people for that team, the other private to that usergroup so the team leader can type up news or what ever for their team. The usergroups are passworded so anyone wishing to join a team on the site will need to the password from the person who created the team in order to join that usergroup. The creator of the group can delete users that they wish to kick out and the user can also leave the webgroup if they wish. I setup a snippet to check to see if a user is already a member of a team and will not show them the join team form till they leave the current team they are a member of.
If you know what Teamspeak is then you will know that it’s a piece of software that you run on your PC that allows you to join a server to use your microphone. Anyway the server part of it runs on a web server and has a database of usernames and passwords of those who have applied to have access. I created a few plugins and snippets that tie in to the server database that allows you to setup users through the website. A user would fill in a form with their username and password and we would have to set this up manually... but I created another way to do this. A trusted admin can see who has applied to use the Teamspeak server and click a button and it setup the person with an account, without having to see their password and it then emails the user to say their account is ready for use. I could setup to automatically do all this but They want to limit who can use the server and not.
Anyway there’s a lot more work involved, still quite a bit to do as well but it’s taking shape anyway. I thought I would share what I have done so far.
