I am Kevin Mason, a 21 year old College Student living in the Phoenix, Arizona Metro Area. I love many things that geeks of my age and gender would like, including, but not limited to: Video Games, Role Playing Games, Computers, and especially Web Design.

I found my love of Web Design not long after I got my first computer that was actually mine, at the age of 13. For eight years, I have been tinkering around with stuff on the web, but it wasn’t until I was 17 years old, and nearly out of high school, that I started to seriously consider it as a career.

I found my love for the job in my 3D Animation Class at School, as the class gave me first hand exposure to the industry, as, although it was a 3D Animation Class, the Instructor, being a former Web Design Instructor at that same school, taught the class the basics of Web Design, teaching us how to fuse our knowledge in 3D Animation with Web Design, to make “3D Websites”. Not only that, but he brought in live clients for us to work with, creating free Websites for several Phoenix Area Businesses.

I participated in several of these, and it was when I was 18 years old, that I got my first paying web design job, maintaining a Web Site for one of the clients that had previously been built a free Web Site. It was here where I discovered the power of the Content Management System - MODx in particular, implementing the Client’s Web Site into one for easy maintenance and updating.

Almost two years later, I founded Bloodstar Studios, in hopes of building on my success, gaining more clients, and with it, more experience.

      Hey Kevin!

Nice site. It has a good, clean design that looks sort of cool.

I have a tip or two for you. For one, I think you should consider whether you want to have ads on the site. I would think that somebody looking to have a website done by a small company would be turned off by text ads.

The second tip is that I think your site would become a lot more personal if you wrote from the first person perspective, saying "I specialize in PHP/MySQL Content Management Systems", rather than "Kevin specializes in PHP/MySQL Content Management Systems", et cetera. This is what I did with my site (still in progress, so only the home page works) at compeek.net for a very similar idea (I do website design and the site will describe my services), and I think it helps people feel more connected if you talk from yourself rather than about yourself. Just an idea. smiley

I like the site, though. Nice work!
I'm learning more about MODx all the time and loving it.

Thanks for the advice, I actually heard elsewhere that it sometimes turns people off if you talk about yourself, but what you said makes more sense.

I haven’t made a penny with adsense either, so I might as well take the ads down - they aren’t helping.

Wow. You pretty much do what I do! Well minus the making websites part. Those are kept the way they are now and I can’t do anything about WYSIWYG lovers. Keep up what you’re doing and it’ll all catch up into play for you!
