Just launched a trilingual site www.system-vet.ch in German, French and English today, for a veterinary.

    Feedback is welcome!

        Very nice work. grin grin

Just currious, with so many options available...How did you do the multi-language? Is it an isolated tree for each language or are you using a method for multiple languages per document?

Yeah, I use a document tree for each language, and use different templates for each language. That approach offers the flexibility to let each language develop in its own direction, as not always all content might be available in all tree languages. For my mindset, it offers more control and keeps things organized and hopefully I can still wrap my head around it in a year or so. And documents can be deleted in one tree without any worries to break something in another three. To much automatisms make me feel restricted - and that’s why I like MODx as a CMS so much, it allows me to approach solutions in many different ways. I feel much more restricted when I have to work with ExpressionEngine.

I might implement a TV later that allows to insert the id to the related documents in the other languages for each document, so the language navigation can link directly to the same document, if it exists, instead of just going to the homepage of the other language.

The client can switch the news section on the left bar on and off with a TV per page. For the ’more links’ in the teasers of the news I use a snippet that is inserting the correct translation for the more link, depending on the current language section. Using snippets to determine in which language tree I am is my preferred method to automate things. Though sometimes it’s as efficient just to duplicate a chunk, like for the contact forms. It can be easier to maintain than to bury things deep in some php code that appears as vodoo when I have to look at it again and can’t remember the logic behind.

Thanks everyone for checking in, and the compliments!

              Beautiful site.

One suggestion, the link color is pretty light in context to other colors used, especially in the sidebar. You may consider adding more contrast to it. IOW make it easily readable.
