One lazy bank holiday I decided to set-up me up a new site. Something for me to use as a linksblog to other interesting things on the internets, a normal blog to write the occasional funny article, and a portfolio for me to aggregate my increasing site list. Hence, my blogfolioTM was born!

    http://www.pixsaul.com

It’s not as complex or feature rich as most of our client builds (one of which is on there, I’m getting around to adding more) but I’m still pleased with what I managed to get done in a day. FeedX for RSS and twitter, Jot, Some Phx, Some tagging, and lots of ditto and wayfinder. It’s getting enhanced every so often. Not sure what’s next, maybe an IE6 redirect page. Still need to add more content too.

    Any feedback/suggestions would be awesome.

      Nice!

I gather you’re from Oz? Watch out for the six-inch spiders, if you’re from that part.

No, UK, what gave the Oz impression? Not that I’m offended, just curious!

Normally I read The Register a lot, so I suppose I’ve gotten used to their particular mangling of the Queen’s English, and then yesterday for some reason I ended up reading several Australian news sites and blogs, and for some reason your blogs just sounded more Australian. Looking again, I see your reference to "the daily mail crowd"; that should have set me straight!

Accents and colloquialisms interest me; usually I can place an English-speaker pretty closely. For example, I grew up in California, have lived in New England, Miami (well, Hialeah, which at the time was pretty much Cuban) and Texas, married a half-Mexican from Texas, and the first time I spoke to the man who became my second husband on the phone I placed him as Cuban. I rode in a taxi here (Israel) a couple of years ago with a woman whom I immediately placed as Californian; she sounded just like my grandmother! My current boyfriend would have puzzled me if I hadn’t seen him first, though; very odd slightly British accent, since he’s from a high-class Indian family which speaks English only and he’d lived in midwestern US for several years.

Yeah It’s pretty interesting. Guess the internet is making the borders between (written) dialogue a lot less noticeable too, turning us into one big meme speaking mess. Anyway getting off topic, glad you like the site, thanks! Any more feedback?

Well, I’d drop the GTFO bit, but then you wouldn’t expect your granny to approve of such language wink

Hmm, I see what you mean, but then again IE6 does deserve all the hate it gets and then some. 3 browsers from the same vendor, all crappy?!?!

Anyway before I start to lose it, I am definitely considering dropping in one of these: http://code.google.com/p/sevenup/
                Probably without any GTFOs too!

Yes, I used one of those once, but it didn’t go into effect until the whole page was loaded (badly in IE) then suddenly it would snap into place. I suppose there must be some way to force it to work as soon as the DOM is ready, before anything gets displayed, but since it was only for one small IE bug I ended up with a conditional style in the template head.

Minor update: Added optional commenting (turned on or off via radio buttons in the backend), Also, the links to each post are dependant on the content. If I’m just linking to somewhere else, it displays a link to the source, and a link to permalink. If it’s an internal post, it displays a read more link and comment count. Also changed the tweet icon, anyone get the reference?  wink

I need to change the RSS icon to fit in, but haven’t come up with an idea I like yet. Also need to style to comments to make them look less jot like, but they’re fine for now.

All of that took me about 30 mins last night, really is amazing how fast things can be done in modx once you know what you’re doing!

Trying to think of something a little more tricky for the next update, any ideas? Thinking maybe some sort of twitter mashup as I want to play around with the API, but anything more related to modx itself would be cool.

Nice site, and I too am always amazed at the speed with which I can actualize concepts in modx.

The tweet icon looks like a Joust (old 80’s arcade game) rider and ostrich/buzzard to me. I loved that game wink
