    Our second MODx site is a week old now. It’s for Good magazine, “New Zealand’s guide to sustainable living”: http://good.net.nz.

    As a new mag without a lot of content (yet!) the new site is quite limited in its features, but we’ll add more over time. It uses many of the same snippets and code as our first site, Idealog, but it’s rather more elegantly put together behind the scenes.

    It also has a new snippet for login and registration, built on top of eForm. It performs a subsite of what WebloginPE does, but it’s a bit easier to use if you have any eForm experience, and it should be possible to take advantage of eForm features to, say, send a reminder password by SMS instead of email. I’ll try to package it up on the repository sometime this month; have a couple of deadlines to attend to before then ;-).

    Cheers

      Sweet site, very nice indeed grin Some nice styling as well, good job.

      The login snippet sounds interesting as well wink

            how did you do the hove tooltip parts at the bottom of the page?

            Er ... that bit was done a bit quickly ... so quickly that we actually disabled it in the IE stylesheet (the background was coming through). So this likely isn’t the best way to do it, but it worked (kinda) for us ...

            So we use Ditto to list the latest articles. The template ditto uses outputs each article something like this:

            <li><a href="[~[+id+]~]">[+pagetitle+]</a>
            <div style="display: none;">[+introtext+]</div>
            </li>

            The stylesheet also hides that <div>, but I like to do it inline as well.

            In the stylesheet, the <li> has

            position: relative;

            The <div> includes these declarations:

            position: absolute;
            width: 130px;
            left: 140px;
            bottom: 0;

            That sets the <div> box at the same height as the <li> item, 140px to the right. (Because it’s an absolutely-positioned child of the <li>, it’s position is relative to the <li>).

            The you need to fire an event when mousing over the <li>. I use jQuery to do that.

            $j('div#goodness div li a').hover(
            	function () {
            		$j(this).parent().find('div').fadeIn();
            	return false;
            	},
            	function () {
            		$j('div#goodness div li div').fadeOut();
            		return false;
            	}
            );

            Don’t think I’m explaining myself very well, but I hope this is helpful! Let me know if I can explain any of this better.

            Cheers

              wow, that design and site is amazing! Im kinda a modx noob, can I ask did you create each article as a page? Do you display them on the home page using Ditto? I havent played with ditto much, so Im still unsure of what it does.

                Yes, each article is created as a page, and they’re displayed on the home page with Ditto. We use Ditto quite a bit, for our contents pages, aggregated blogs and recent articles, and so on. We couldn’t do much without it.

                  Definitely good work there. I enjoy the spacing on the site. Good use of whitespace. I really like them both.
