    greetings!

as a digital agency we’ve been using MODx for over a year now for nearly all of our PHP based solutions and i love it! so first up, a big thanks to everyone involved in producing a great app!

so anyway, i thought i’d share some of the sites that we have built recently using MODx, each with varying amounts of complexity and custom stuff:

    www.kingsleynapley.co.uk
a firm of international lawyers in london - uses custom search snippets and also a customised version of ditto 2.0 to enable case insensitive staff profile searching and also searching staff profiles by the first character of the lastname (these features have been included in the 2.1 release of ditto)

    www.wesupply.com
a supply chain management company - uses ajax to load subpages and also a custom tagging system to show contextual articles in the right column.

    www.b2d2.co.uk
our own website - we redesigned and rebuilt the site last year using MODx

    www.aquacare247.co.uk
a local water company - a simple site with very exciting pictures of plumbers and boilers! also shows a random Jot comment on the homepage.

Very nice showcase. My favorite is your own site...but that is an easy choice since the subject is the most attractive and easy to identify with. Kingsley is awesome as well, very well done. The search in the Kingsley site is great. Is that a modified version of the a-to-z snippet or is that a custom feature.

Good job, and a nice body of work. Congratulations. grin

Thanks ... the search feature is a custom coded snippet, using ditto to output the results smiley

hi susan, as you asked so nicely ... see attached for the snippet smiley

on this particular site the staff profiles are displayed in various ways:

              • department drop down in the footer
              • free name search in the footer
              • first char of lastname
              • each "service area" under "meet the team"

the profiles are held in modx as documents with several TVs to indicate primary & secondary departments, whether person is a partner or an "practice area leader", among other custom fields.

my snippet "doPeopleSearch" takes the inputs from all the different areas, and basically formats a ditto call.

i customised ditto in order to allow case-insensitive filtering for the free name search and also to allow searching by the first char of a staff member’s last name (pagetitle field used as "lastname, firstname"). i also changed the Ditto functionality to allow the altTemplate to be used at a specified interval rather than every other iteration, so my profile thumbnails wrapped nicely at 3 or 4 to a row depending on the page displaying them.

the custom ditto filtering is documented here (although this is now included in Ditto 2.1)

the custom altTemplate interval functionality is documented here:

i hope this all makes sense and i include my snippet as it appears on the live site (i haven’t removed or changed anything)

also attached is my snippet for showing the A-Z list but only making a link out of the letters that have profiles.

Hello Highlander (isn’t your company located in the south? wink)
The KN website is truly impressive. Is it all done with modx and can you tell us how well the modx cmf works especially for the internal communication/Intranet (alumni section?)?

I am currently a design student in glasgow, looking into this new cmsf, I might want to dive deeper into it. Though I am not a php/database developer and do not want to get one, but hope will be fine with html/css and a wee cup of java in this system?

hi norritt ... many thanks for your praise ... and yes we’re in poole cool

                      1) yes the entire KN site is done in modx, although it is heavily customised with lots of custom snippets to control the content

                      2) alumni/intranet - this section uses the built in modx web users security but i did have to tweak the modx core slightly as different and new fields were required (i added fields to the "modx_web_user_attributes" table, amended the web users section within the modx manager to use these new fields and my front end registration form is uses a combination of eForm and a custom version of eForm2db).

                      3) modx is awesome "off-the-shelf" especially if you have decent XHTML/CSS skills but in order to really get the most out of it some knowledge of php is vital so you can customise the functionality to your own/client’s requirements. if you’ve already done some sort of procedural programming before then getting to grips with the basics of php is a doddle.
