New Einstein Site with ModX

Just finished another site using ModX that I thought I would share with everyone.

I used a lot of the resources for this one, including:
Ditto, Wayfinder, easyNewsletter, NewsParserX, ListIndexer, AJSearch

I really want to set up a Poll but I’m having a horrible time getting PollManager (3.0) to work properly, including getting it styled how I want. Anyone that has used it and can help I would appreciate it.

I have a few little details to finish up, but it’s pretty much final. Code is Valid!

Very nice site! Nice design, nice colours, nice grid.

My only suggestion would be to give more space between Einstein’s head and the global nav so that he doesn’t have an rss icon sitting in his hair. It is a little odd and may be perceived as disrespectful.

After toying with the site I also found that I have another issue. I felt I should be able to click on the headings on the index: Latest News; Biography, etc. having only learn more as the link will slow users who see headings for intros as clickable. This is a learned behavior that news sites often use.

Still a great site though.

Another thing...

On reviewing the site you should have the following in your template between the head tags:




This will allow browsers to detect the RSS feed inherently and display the subscribe icon in the address bar of modern browsers.

Very nice job. It’s funny, but I had just recently become interested in reading more of Einstein’s writings. I guess I’ll bookmark your site.

Thanks for the tip, Jay. I totally missed that. I’m still wrestling with the Poll Module.

It’s a very nice design and I think it fits really well with the material.

The only thing I noticed is that there’s a constantly flashing hourglass next to the cursor arrow in IE6. I can’t figure out why since you have no animation or rotating images.

Thanks for the heads-up on the flashing cursor. The only thing I can think it would be is a bit of javascript I am using to make the columns all even height.

How about randomising some of the quotes or making a quote of the day somewhere? You could use the feed from http://quotes4all.net/quotations/albert%20einstein/quotes.html

I did something similar on http://www.flash-genie.de/ (just a website for pottering with really so don’t expect much) and would be happy to share what I have.
