    Hello.

I’ve read lots of stuff about creating multilingual sites with MODx. I still haven’t found the perfect solution —apart from a "core" implementation that we are all waiting for.

By the way, in your opinion, which is the best solution for building multilingual sites with MODx, so far?

Anyway, could you give me examples or real multilingual sites built with MODx?

    Thank you!

I used the method explained in the wiki: http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Make_Multi_Lingual_Site

Works fine, added some customizing for my personal needs though...

I dont think that there is ONE solution that fits all cases. For smaller sites or sites with simple content a branch for each language works fine. But for large sites or with more complex content a ’super page’ with all the data for all languages on the same page (tvs for each language) and have the display changed by either a session variable or a cookie seems to be more productive.

What also will define the method is if all languages have the exact same content structure, if not then a super page structure will not work.

Relying on sessions and cookies is dangerous, because you risk that search engines won’t index your content properly, i.e. only one language version.

But I agree... use what works best for your particular needs.

fwiw, here’s a site with a custom lang. switcher: schtifti.ch (D F I in the upper left corner = german, french, italian).

              www.sabf.org.ar

I have 2 folders to separate each version of the site (english/spanish).

At the moment I’m working on a better solution, I will post about it after passing all my exams smiley

What I don’t like about the multiple tree method is doing updates. For example a client needs to go to multiple pages to update a news article in all languages.

Thats depends on the situation, for example I don’t need identical sites.

the way i did it google indexes both languages because on each page there is a link to the other language.
