Hi,
I have two server on which i deploy one of my application. One is testing server which is running on one machine and one is production server which is running on another machine. After testing application on testing server, I deploy it on the production machine.
Same I want to do with MODX deployment. The case is something like that
- The content writer will add the content to the testing server MODX version
- Now the content will get reviewed on the testing server for its correctness by some of the higher authority.
- When the higher authority mark the content as publishable it is published on the production machine.
Now i do not want to rewrite the content to the deployment machine. Is there any deployment practice of MODX available which can assure my case. Please suggest.
Thank You
Well, in essence you will have 2 installs of MODx running. One on your dev environment and the other on your production environment.
From what I understand, (for now) a typical work flow would be...
Creation of new pages:
Write your content to an un-published page. Once all content is approved, publish the page.
Update of existing pages:
Create a duplicate of the document you are editing. Make sure the duplicate is un-published & make your edits to the unpublished page. Once all content is approved, you can copy/paste in the content from the new page into the old (published) page.
I would only use one environment -- production to do all of your content. Since the pages are not published, they will not be visible to the average user.
If you want to keep your dev and production sites in sync, Iād just make the change in one, then do a sql dump or something and bring the content over to the other. By doing that however, you could run risk of missing a system/user setting that needs adjusted depending on environment.
Thanx dowhatnow,
Your suggestion was valuable for me. Based on your suggestion, now I am maintaining only one MODX install on the production machine. The things that i have to do is to create some of the users who can also see the unpublished pages to my preview site. Dowhatnow can you please help me, how to make these types of settings to the users and best practices.
Thank You

Manager users can see unpublished pages if they are assigned to a role with View Unpublished Resources permission.
If you prefer, you can assign them a front-end page to go to on login with the Manager Login Startup in their User tab, and prevent their even accessing the Manager at all with the Manager Interface Access buttons also in their User tab.
QuickManager is also highly configurable for front-end resource management.
Thanx sottwell,
Now I got the full control on the users of MODX. Thank you very much for your nice suggestions.
In spite of this, I also have one scenario in which I have to show the feeds of my blog along with the minimal content onto my another application which is not made by modx. Does Modx provides me some plugins or there is inbuilt feature in MODX
