    Ok did a bit of work..

    Before;

    Connection Rate Download Time
    14.4K 495.90 seconds
    28.8K 250.05 seconds
    33.6K 214.93 seconds
    56K 130.64 seconds
    ISDN 128K 42.92 seconds
    T1 1.44Mbps 7.56 seconds

    After;

    Connection Rate Download Time
    14.4K 143.59 seconds
    28.8K 73.80 seconds
    33.6K 63.82 seconds
    56K 39.89 seconds
    ISDN 128K 14.99 seconds
    T1 1.44Mbps 4.95 seconds

    not bad I guess... msn is about 127 sec @ 14.4

    My biggest hang up is prototype.js - I have tried to use packed / compressed versions before, and just now, but it kills everything.

    mootools looks sweet but I don’t have time to really look into it now.

      Bring out your dead!

      I know this topic is old but I feel that this is where I should post.

      After a power outage, server crash, and loss of backup drive, I have rebuilt the server and redone the whole site from scratch & search engine caches. It looks about the same I have to say. But I found new / better ways to do stuff in the back-end.

      Since starting this original thread, I have changed the layout slightly and added a sidebar. I have to say it looks better than it did, but Something about it just doesn’t click with me... Need some fresh eyes and insight. Please be free and open with your comments.

        The birdies are back! smiley

        Here’s my 2 euro-cents:

        I would get rid of the dark background: Just use white, a light grey or light blue instead. The contrast to the content background color is just too heavy, imo.

        This page: http://sweetskies.fruitwerks.us/breeders.php has too much whitespace, esp. when you only list one thumbnail per line. You could easily fit 2 or 3 pics on one line. Visitors wouldn’t have to scroll so much. Right now it feels like it has too many visual "holes".

        http://sweetskies.fruitwerks.us/babies.php - the elements (listing) are too far apart, get them closer together. Also, I wouldn’t alternate left/right scheme for text/pics.
        Also, use just one type of horizontal separator: either green or grey, but not both (at least not on the same page).

        Frontpage: For my taste, there’s too many borders around the contents, and they’re too close together.

        Menu font: I don’t like Impact. It looks weird at small sizes like this. Too narrow. Use a wider font, something that breathes more. Try Helvetica / Arial and experiment with letter-spacing (CSS).

          OK changed the body to grey something.. I liked the black, and it worked with the lightbox nicely, but this is just as good. Also, if you are at 1024x768 like most of my visitor according to google stats, you do not see it anyway smiley

          You looked at the breeders page at a bad time smiley I was trying to change the ul’s to classes because id doesn’t validate... they usually display 3 across.

          The babies page is dirty.. haha I want to do two across, but can’t figure out the CSS just yet... and once I do that, I will only have on type of ’hr’ like element.

          homepage... disaster.. I agree...

          Impact does look funny sometimes, but I liked the ’boldness’ - I’ll check out some others

          Thanks!
