Been lurking here for a while but not posted. Finally finished my first ModX site for a client, still a few things to sort out with Validation (so don’t flame me on that I’ll fix it eventually). And don’t talk to me about the bl**dy flash intro its not my idea!!!!!

    Points of interest perhaps?
Using Ditto and XML to generate a feed to power the flash menu.
Using Ditto + a modified web sign up to power the Book Club and book reviews found under Books --> Book Club.
And check out the ditto powered search under the Book Club too.

I’m totally addicted to ModX now and have a few more client’s sites in the pipeline!

    Feedback welcome

I hate flash... there, I said it.

now, cbolt, your integration and clever use of ditto to work with flash is unique and inspiring.
Truth be told, the one thing I like about flash is that it looks the same in all browsers with a flash plugin.

I usually try and avoid it unless it is serving a purpose but sometimes clients or designers insist.

I like it, as Scotty mentioned a great integration of Ditto and XML to power the menu.

          I also like the colours.

I’m going to have to have a play with ditto and xml to power flash soon...anything you want to share about how you achieved it? smiley

          All the best,

Cool site, some start small others dive right in.

Ditto -> XML -> Flash is a great idea. It has been a while since I have used flash but I often get requests for flash sites with a CMS. Will need to read up on interfacing with XML.

Nice search too. Also like the store locator.

            Well done.

There’s not much to it actually. I just read up on Flash’s XML interface in the Help and dived into it. The Help in Flash was really good. Generating the XML from ModX was easy as you probably know. Only tricky bit was writing the flash action script to generate and place the menu items on the stage. I hadn’t done that sort of thing before.

Thanks, I will have a play!

For anybody not so flash-savvy I have a couple of XML generated menus at http://www.flash-genie.de/index.php?id=7&relPath=Flash

of which the ActionScript is little more than a recursive function to populate arrays if I remember rightly...it’s been a few years since I made them

                Cheers,

I love the menu! How is it done?

                  Slick site, keep it up.

Great job! I use Wordpress as a CMS backend for some clients, using a simple database call to retrieve content into a variable in the flash frontend. I did not get to implementing menu structures just yet, so clients can only change the content for existing pages. Anything more complicated, they need me grin

The thing I’d really like to have interfaced to flash though is the user permission structure in modx.

As I see it, if you were to make a simple non-designed modx site and style the flash frontend on top of that, you’d have it optimized for search engines, but have a superior and much easier to manage Flash styling.

As for using Flash in general (off-topic, if you wish):
In my experience, making and changing a website design is far easier and faster in Flash, perhaps a third of the time it takes to do it in HTML/CSS/JS. Furthermore, you have *much* more freedom in your design, no cross-browser issues, and all the coding and graphics are concentrated in one program. Just my 2 cents.
