    Thingstodo,

You are correct in your assumption of my meaning. Safe_mode itself is not bad but the fact that your host insists on keeping it on is an indicator that they may not know the best way to secure the server.

We resell Verio hosting to our clients.

Revo hosting is tricky. While Verio allows us to modify the PHP configuration fairly liberally on shared hosting, getting a MySQL database with InnoDB support is a crap shot -- when you buy a shared hosting package, you don’t necessarily get consistent hardware/software topology: there’s a 50/50 chance the server hosting the site will have InnoDB support.

That said, for Revo installations we usually pitch Verio’s VPS/MPS hosting for maximum control of server resources and guaranteed compatibility.

A friend of mine introduced me to HostColor and so far I am very happy with them. He has been running sites on them for a few years and was drawn to them because they do not limit traffic or drop your site if it has a burst of traffic. In other words, they do not overload their servers. They explain it in quite some detail as a feature of the way they conduct business - nothing worse than getting a bunch of traffic one day and having visitors be locked out. I have installed several copies of Revo on HostColor and so far it works like a charm.

Just wanted to update my original post. I am on a shared hosting environment with www.Blacknight.com and emailed support to ask about suitability of their servers. Both the support team and the manager (Michele Neylon) replied to me to saw that their servers should have no trouble running Revo. I did an install during the week and it runs beautifully. smiley
