    Need Help...

I’ve recently upgraded a site 1.0.4. Before, I had a rss feed using ditto and a sitemap.xml using the Google sitemap snippet. Also, I had a xml file that was used to supplied a flash swf movie with images and links.

    Then they all ceased working.

I can get them to load now (had to disable an Anchor’s Away plug-in) but if I have my RSS feed set to the alias "feed.rss" ModX adds .html to the end as well (feed.rss.html). It does this also to the my sitemap.xml (sitemap.xml.html). This causes problems with many things (my search, Google Sitemaps submission, flash loading an xml file, etc).

For now, I’ve left the Friendly URL Suffix as blank and fixes most of the issues.

This behavior is nothing new re: the Friendly URL Suffix being added to all files. Your solution is the one I always used; I would include any file extensions I wanted to appear directly in the alias itself. FWIW, in Revolution, there is no more global suffix; each Content Type can define it’s own extension which is applied to FURLs.

I was using the .html extension and just removed it. Is this worth doing just so sitemap.xml works properly? I’m assuming the file extension in FURLs doesn’t matter. I also noticed that modxcms.com has the / at the end of the URL whereas my site doesn’t after deleting the HTML extension in config. Any input on FURL extensions or lack thereof?

For most cases it isn’t necessary. Some types expect a certain suffix, such as .css for stylesheets (sometimes IE can get difficult over using a stylesheet that doesn’t have a .css extension). I’ve worked on many sites where the client didn’t want any suffix at all on his URLs.

Thanks, Susan. Helpful reply as always. It seems weird that anyone would want to drop CSS or JS extensions or the like. As for FURLs it looks like common (best?) practice is to have no extension but have the trailing "/". I just put the slash as the suffix and that did the trick. The sitemap.xml generated by the Google Sitemap snippet isn’t throwing the slash at the end either. Thanks again for the help!
