I’m a 43 yr old ozzy - Australian - trying to get a CMS to work, or to put it another way, to get a CMS that I can work!

Developing a couple of sites, or trying to, but run into walls all the time.
Primarily the main site is a local community site with eventual support for local groups, online news, businesses etc. A bitof everything.

I understand old school stuff to a degree - HTML, a little java, vbscript, etc (I still program desktop stuff in VB and C rolleyes ) - Never bothered with AJAX or other libraries, always used my own - simpler in many cases.

I’m a 3 day user of ModX - and am very impressed so far and slowly getting things to work. (Templates are driving me nuts - CSS is not my strong point . Draw it up in Dreamweaver and then attempt to convert to suit ModX - slow double handling but almost works)
I’m starting to see how the various data tags interlink but it will all take time.

I used to run Joomla and Drupal but found both were just too restricting, slow, insecure, etc etc etc.
I’ve tried Xoops, Drupal, Mambo, Joomla, PostNuke, phpwebsite, etc etc and then gave up on using a CMS until someone mentioned ModX. (I was actually starting on a HTML / Java Script site using 1999/2000 technology - simple but it works)

I think ModX will be okay for my style of stuff as it seems fairly versatile but depends on the learning curve, and coming to grips with chunks and snippets and tags and stuff.

I won’t put a link yet cause theres nothing there except a fresh install and numerous test pages. (Like I said I’m trying to get template happening first.)

Hopefully I’ll be a long term happy modx user. (If not its still a great learning tool)
Thanks for what appears to be a versatile system.

Welcome from across the ditch. If I can get to grips with MODx, then even an Aussie can wink

Mind you, I’m still trying to get my head around template variables. The rest fell into place fairly easily - it’s just a matter of experimentation.

I’m sure you’ll find your experience with MODx a good one. You only need to spend a short time on these forums to realise what a helpful and friendly bunch MODXers are

G’day from northern New South Wales.

Nice to see someone from my neck of the woods getting into MODx.

Well this is the result of what can be accomplished in 3 days with MODx, once you know what your doing.

Can you post a link of what you’ve got so far?

        Regards,
        Ivan
