Hi.
My first MODx site just went live (but not finished, of course!) at
http://www.teakettlepress.com for any who are interested. It doesn’t use many of the fancy tricks/options available in MODx but was a great learning experience, and most of it validates (minor errors so far that will be fixed). We still have to add keywords, etc. and were unable to use friendly URLs due to server constraints.
For my introduction (which I’ve already done on the French forum), I’m an "older" designer-turned-geek (okay I’m 50!) and learning the necessary new tricks since I started building sites more than 10 years ago (before there were applications to help you with it). I use a whole mix of tools but do lots of hand-coding. Susan Ottwell has become my new idol (as she probably is for a few fans here) as I, too, am learning the geekier side of this on my own… but truly loving it! I’m interested in learning more about Ajax, Ruby and PHP. I work primarily in the cultural sector, mostly with French-speaking clients as I live in Québec, and mostly with musicians (I am one, too), since I’m married to a French fiddler (
http://www.claudemethe.com). I design TONS of album covers, mostly for trad and folk artists, and my latest design is my husband’s new album which is currently nominated for Trad Album of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards (fingers crossed). I’m currently rushing to get all of my "old" sites into valid form because it terrifies me that some knowledgeable person will come across it and be shocked by all the "old" CSS and framesets! I’m beginning a few new client MODx sites and am in LOVE with this app; really, really, really well done, and helped me to finally understand designing from this perspective. I think it’s a bit like starting to cross-country ski after years of downhill – scary! Hopefully I can eventually contribute something helpful to the mix – I already feel like I’ve become a member of a really wonderful, generous family.
