I’m very new to the world of CMSs. I’ve never developed with a CMS, so as a primer I converted my personal site of about 100 html pages into a MODx site - www.dorianj.com. It’s write-ups of stuff I’ve done to my cars that other offroaders have found helpful. As of right now the site is a plain css template with the BreadCrumbs and WayFinder snippets. BreadCrumbs has also been modified to give search engine friendly page titles. I suppose I’ll be able to build more complex stuff with some practice.

Some things I need help with...

1. AdSense ad placement. Where is the best location on a layout like this? I wanted to place ads within the content text, but at the template level and can not figure out how to do it.

2. Ordered Lists. The menu on the right is a series of nested Unordered Lists. I want the fourth level to be ordered lists because those are the actual steps in sequence of the project being written about. See this page for example http://dorianj.com/page7.html. All the items under the Front list item should be numbered. Can anyone help with that?

3. Next and Previous navigation. On the MODx site (http://modxcms.com/getting-started.html) some pages have quick navigation links within the content. On this particular page they say < index and Content Editor’s Guide >. How are those done?

4. Images. My css declared images to be floated right ( #main img {float: right;} ), but for the bottom of the page I declared a new div #w3credentials img {text-align: center;} to center the images, but it doesn’t work. They still float right.

Other than that, feel free to comment on what you see. If my css is good enough, it won’t be hard to fix things. wink Again, the site is www.dorianj.com.

You have to specify float:none; in the specific images you don’t want floated. Or, even better, give the images you want floated right a class name like class="right" then in your css do img.right{float:right;}

You can’t specify in the template something to go in the middle of something. So, here are the three methods that would work:
1) Use two fields (although be aware that the search snippet only searches [*content*]) ie [*content*] and [*morecontent*] and place your Adwords in between the two.
2) Instead of calling [*content*] directly, call it via a snippet (afaik unwritten) that places Adsense after the second paragraph.
3) Like 2, only using a plugin.
No, I don't know what OpenGeek's saying half the time either.

I don’t want the images floated left or right. I want them to be centered just like the text.

Then they will respond to the container’s text-align instruction, just like text will. But since earlier you specified images to float:right, you need to specify #w3credentials img{float:none;}. The text-align: instruction is applied to the container, not the item you are trying to center.

That fixed it. Thanks.
