I’ve Installed ModX and had a bit of a play, Wow this is great grin

Now what is it for ?
    (jk)

Ok, I’ve read enough to know this is nothing like nuke, mambo etc, etc...
I’m just wondering what sort of integration possibilities there are likely to be in the future.
eg. classifieds, link directories, Auction scripts etc...
Is this what ModX is ultimately about? a CMS that is also able to link up standalone scripts?
(I’m not talking about next week.. I mean eventually)

Welcome Jezz. Kids are the greatest and it only gets better. I see she’s successfully wrapped you around her pinkie with one word. laugh

Feel freek to as any questions where you’d like. MODx is similar to the other CMSes you mentioned but quite differnt in the light of it’s tremendous flexibility and it’s ability to support XHTML/CSS layouts painlessly. And our @bindings, of course; once you "get" those, you’ll be amazed!

One thing that I will point out. It’s a really good learning tool for people starting with PHP, and willing to learn PHP in more detail. You have all the basic framework done and in fact, it’s a lot different than other php framework which gives you too much abstraction as abeginner. With MODx, you can get most of the basic stuff done, and you can build your own solution on top of it to make it behave differently. If you’re a more experience php and mysql programmer, than you can bring the framework further without sacrificing the time to create a code to extend the current framework to do some basic stuff such as taking care documents, authentication and etc.

To answer your first question, feel free to ask in any forum topic that you thing suiteable with your current questions, and we willtry to response to it immediately wink

For future integration, we will have smf forums, gallery2 integration, phorum, and some other cool stuff built from scratch on top of MODx, such as shopping cart, calendar, and etc. so take your time in following our development progress, and if you feel you can contribute something, feel free to do so.

          Sincerely.

I’m just wondering, is it nesserary to rebuild an application for scratch in order to integrate it with MODx ?
(lol.. here I go with my dumb questions)
Taking into account that you could have different levels of intergration, could it be possible to make a module that acts like a translator/emulator (can’t think of the word...) to share database information between the scripts?
I realize there would be session probs, but maybe these could be overcome some how?

I was looking at the Bitweaver cms, They have managed to intergrate phpBB with some extra template files, and only a handfull of edits to the main script. They have called it "loose integration" and multiple user bases are maintained so.. i think this may be a working example of what i’m talking about.
              http://www.bitweaver.org/wiki/PhpBBPackage
Maybe it’s possible to use a similar method with MODx and other scripts?

              Just curious

              Jeremy

It’s very straightforward to make two applications look similar. That’s exactly what we’ve one with SMF and MODx. However, up next, we’ll have the user systems integrated as well (in testing now).
