    Hi,

I’m a designer working for a small charity in the UK. They had a modx site built for them about 2 years ago at a very budget rate by a marketing company which was affiliated with one of their staff. Or something. Anyway, the marketing company has just pulled the plug on their free hosting, so I offered to transfer the site to a new host, which I duly did, complete with new imported database via phpMyAdmin and the right changes made to the config.inc.php file.

Here’s where we are: www.bethanychildrenstrust.org.uk Basically the site works - it gets data from the DB, it puts it up, you can move from page to page (mostly). The Manager produces various PHP errors, like:
    Forgot Manager Login - OnBeforeManagerLogin
An error occurred while loading. Please see the event log for more information.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '-', expecting '}' in /websites/123reg/LinuxPackage21/be/th/an/bethanychildrenstrust.org.uk/public_html/manager/includes/document.parser.class.inc.php(745) : eval()'d code on line 100
    Forgot Manager Login - OnManagerAuthentication
An error occurred while loading. Please see the event log for more information.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '-', expecting '}' in /websites/123reg/LinuxPackage21/be/th/an/bethanychildrenstrust.org.uk/public_html/manager/includes/document.parser.class.inc.php(745) : eval()'d code on line 100

But it does seem to mostly work. It also occasionally doesn’t work at all. There’s also links missing from the nav bar on the site itself.

Here’s the problems that we have getting this site fixed:

    1) I’m not a PHP developer and have never used modx before - I’m only just getting to grips with Wordpress
    2) The developer at the marketing co who built the site really has to move on now and not keep being hassled by me asking for help
    3) We’re not sure if the server SQL engine is up to the job: “Your PHP MySQL library version 5.0.77 differs from your MySQL server version 5.1.47. This may cause unpredictable behavior.” This comes from the phpMyAdmin home page but the host’s tech support says it’s irrelevant.
    4) This is a small charity. I want them to have the best site they can for the least amount of money. The site was produced without any proper consultation or strategy and will likely be replaced later this year with something more cohesive (may or may not be modx based)

We’re currently on shared hosting provided by 123-reg.co.uk. It’s linux, with the latest PHP and, I though, latest MySQL too.

AS far as I can tell this is the techie data:

    MySQL:

    Server: cust-mysql-123-02 via TCP/IP
    Server version: 5.1.47-rel11.2-log
    Protocol version: 10
    MySQL charset: UTF-8 Unicode (utf8)

    Web server:

    Apache
    MySQL client version: 5.0.77
    PHP extension: mysqli
    phpMyAdmin

    Version information: 3.3.3

If you’re interested in helping us out, then please take a look at the site, spend a bit of time reading it to see if there’s any heartstring tugging going on and then get in touch. I’m pretty sure there’s just some files missing or something like that (I’ve downloaded and uploaded the site about 4 times now, and there’s something different wrong with it each time!)

Hope to hear from someone soon!

    Cheers,

    Dan smiley

I’ve had a couple of really helpful replies from forum members, so I’m considering the problem and post now closed. Thanks everyone for your input and proving once again that the vast majority of people out there on the line are just decent honest nice folks. grin
