[Offer] $250 custom PSD Design

Having discovered modx a few years and largely ignoring it and having rediscovered it again recently and fallen in love with it, I want to give something back (edit hmmm cant think of a better phrase ).

Basically I am a web designer, Its something I like and enjoy doing, its about the only thing I have passion/motivation for.. so my offer to the modx community is:

Custom designed PSD with unlimited revisions for $250. If an agency or whatnot is willing to purchase say 5 designs per month we can negotiate a fee of around $1000 or 10 for $1500 pm etc (this can be discussed). Typical turnaround would be 24-48 hrs

If anybody wants to see the the quality of my designs then I can offer an intro fee of $150 or PM your email for some samples.

Note this offer is PSD design only ( not coded - you will have to code it yourself )

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Shark

In my opinion, charging for your services as a way to "give back" to a free, open source community is a bit sinister.

On the other hand, if you were going to post, say, 1 or more of your psd’s designs, in an open source fashion -- i.e. gpl-like use, -- to the community, I would consider that "giving back". YMMV.

Also, your free website design offer in another forum, only charging for hosting costs, that I would consider a form of giving back :

(BTW, just to be clear -- Im not saying you shouldn’t charge for your labors, or that anyone expects you to do your work for free (http://www.webdesignerforum.co.uk/topic/36850-why-is-it-that/page__p__234936__hl__nellyshark__fromsearch__1#entry234936), or there’s anything wrong with your pricing -- just that I don’t consider charging money for graphics services a way to "give back" to an open source community in any reasonable way. Im sure there’s a bit of wiggle room for argument on it. )

Stop following me lol The YE forum , some of the responses are

I have a couple of designs already released into the Open Source World (a few years back mind, getting old sigh ) that I was thinking of coding for Modx but they are not applicable for a particular type industry so I’m a bit meh about releasing em here (plus theyre quite old). The big issue for me is that I’m not a massive coder so thought a relatively affordable offer (over here its affordable anways) was the next best option . Don’t want to be releasing crap either

As soon as I have what I feel is adequate designs (hopefully properly coded) I will be releasing them, in the meantime this is an offer that people can accept/decline but its still out there.

Edit to add anytime I have offered free stuff I have just been abused tbh. For a design I really need a brief too, dont really like releasing design that say have been chucked by clients either. I dunno, if people think this is a sham or whatnot then pls delete

Ye are probably right, should release some templates first so have reported the thread to be deleted.

I’m pretty rubbish on concepts without a brief, what industries should I aim the templates at?

Pick something that interests you and make it as generic as possible.

BTW, there’s lots of money making opportunities over at 99designs for designers and the competition prize money is usually substantially more than the prices you’ve indicated, and you won’t need to spend half a lifetime doing unlimited revisions for free. Good designers can make in excess of 250k, but most of the good ones get flooded with new business so they don’t hang around very long.

Most people who frequent places like this are hobby / enthusiasts who want to do everything themselves to save money, or if they need to spend money, then it won’t be very much and some may want the shirt off your back for it.

Head over to 99designs, if your good then it’ll be easy money, or at the very least, it’ll give you the opportunity to get your work noticed by some heavy hitter commercial buyers.
