it is definitely easy to set up Foxy fast, but if the client is picky about look and feel and tweaking the interaction, it’s not hard to spend longer. There are a number of ways to customize stuff that can take time - tweaking CSS, adding custom fields and so on.
netProphET, you’re absolutely right about the tweaking and so on. Obviously with any e-commerce (and website for that matter), layout, look and feel, CSS, graphics, etc. you could spend hours (and we all have) trying to get what it is exactly the customer wants the site to look like.
I guess my main point in the time issue and hopefully shedding some more light on the original post is that hands down, for the time it takes to get a solid, PCI compliant shopping cart set up that integrates into MODx like a glove, I don’t know of anything as powerful and easy to set up and customize as FoxyCart. For small to mid-sized e-commerce stores, it’s a snap.
When I first started web design, I was scared to touch shopping carts b/c I didn’t want to have to get into all the elements of dealing with putting together all the elements required to get a solid e-commerce set up for my clients. Then FC comes along and after I figured out a few things, e-commerce is now a breeze.
And a previous posting mentioned this one really awesome thing about FC...Brett and Luke are insanely fast about helping with any issues that may arise....those guys are serious about this product and their attitude in their support shows it.
