Hi
I’m working on a MODX project that has the requirement to add google maps with dynamic ’points of interest’. I’m based in the UK and am happy working over skype / msn / email.
Please contact me if you are interested in this project. email: smiling_impala[at]yahoo.co.uk
Many thanks
Will
Hi,
Thanks for the link. My requirements are more complicated then the scope of your plugin. I need the ability to add, edit and remove ’points of interest’ from a data base.
Many thanks
Will
Do you mean multiple points of interest on a single map? That isn’t currently possible with my snippet (will be in next version). However, if you mean you need to show a single point of interest on a map where the point is created dynamically from the address, then my snippet can do it. I typically create a template for each point of interest (with tvs such as address 1, city, zip etc) and pass the tv values to the snippet. Then I create a document for each POI based on the template. This therefore allows a content editor to create a new POI simply by creating a new document and putting in its address.
I’m planning on extending this functionality to include multiple points of interest per map (so you could show your fave restaurants in a city for example). But that’s likely to be a few months away.
This could be modified from
GoogleMapMarker.
What needs to be done is to add geocode support (
http://www.developer.com/lang/jscript/article.php/3615681 or
http://www.developer.com/db/article.php/3621981) and make it so that address to the marker is written in TV’s on a document and the url to the marker icon is in a TV. Then use ditto to list the documents like GoogleMapMarker does and generate the javascript.
More features such as driving directions are easy to add (
http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/examples/directions-advanced.html)
I don’t have time to help with this, but it’s pretty easy to implement.
