    Hi,

We are a small design agency in Exeter, Devon, UK and we’re on the lookout for an experienced ModX programmer (preferably UK-based) to help us with a prospective contract that would involve the building of 2 sites that would share a common back-end database.

At this point in time this is a speculative enquiry since we don’t know if we’ve won the work.

    Brief
As stated above, the contract is for two websites on two separate domains, one in the US and one in the UK.

    • The US site is the parent company.
They program software which they make available for downlod via their site.
That software is in trial mode when downloaded and can then be activated by paying - again on their site - for an activation code.
They also make full versions of the software available for purchase on CD which a user can also order and pay for on the site.
This site would be the one which holds and maintains all the content which appears on both sites.

    • The UK site is for their European distributor.
The site would pull its content from the US site and would function in pretty much the same way, except for the following:
      - European users tend to favour the purchase of the software on CD rather than the download-activate option (although both will be offered). Whereas the US site uses its own secure certificate to deal with credit card payments, the UK site proposes using PayPal to handle these, therefore this difference in functionality needs to be borne in mind
      - Pricing will differ slightly between the two sites. The US site will be in Dollars only, whilst the UK site will be in Pounds Sterling, Euros and possible other currencies too. There would be a need to allow for the display of prices in these different currencies, with conversion done on-the-fly. Working out the base price to sell at on the UK site would probably involve taking the base price they buy it for from the US, adding on a mark-up percentage and then converting to the relevant currency.
      - There is also the small issue of spelling between the US and UK (color/colour etc.) It is yet to be decided whether to deal with this, or simply take the US content as-is. This also raises the question of other languages that potential European customers could speak. Should the UK site allow full language translation facilities? Is that something MODX is capable of?

There has also been some discussion about this project on this forum at http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,21096.0.html

The visuals of the site would be carried out by us, and both sites would utilise many of the facilities of ModX as it exists out-of-the-box, but as you can see there would be a need to add extra functionality and it’s for these items that we feel it would be useful to have an experienced ModX programmer on board.

The budget at this point is still open to discussion, and could be based on either your hourly rate or a set fee for the entire contract.

The timescale has also not been set at this point in time.

If you’re interested in assisting us with this project please reply to this post, or email me at tony[at]fluvius.co.uk. If possible please include your resume/CV and a portfolio of existing projects. Please also include your hourly/daily/monthly rate.

    Many thanks.

    Best regards,
    Tony.
