I’m quoting on a property sales / letting web site.
I’d love to do it all in MODx and any application/snippet that comes about as a result of this site I am quite happy to make open to the project - is that the right way of doing this?
I’m going to need help with this so I’d like to hear from (not exclusively from) anyone with experience in the property web site sector for a project involving the following:
1. Some sort of map interface to allow for easy identification of properties for sale in certain locations - this could be Google based or something like "Golden UK and Ireland Maps" (but that is Flash based - which I would sooner avoid).
2. Search system with maximum price, min price, area select, bedrooms, house type - I’ve seen something like this on MODx but I don’t think it was complete?
The system has got to be ’updateable’ by a non MODx user right the way down the line - create a new listing and its position will appear on the map. I see this being postcode based (UK only) also with links through to upmystreet.co.uk - if you’ve done a property web site before you will know what I mean.
I am getting many enquiries at the moment so I’m not bombing this board - just got more on than I can do on my own!
Many thanks
I would opt for GoogleMaps as well - their API is well-documented, and there’s a plethora of code snippets out there. Plus, it’s free. UpMyStreet charges money for their "business services"...
I’ve built several stuff with GoogleMaps already, incl. a nice distance calculator for a motorbike site. The user could also generate directions from point A to B. That wasn’t made with MODx, but should be fairly easy to port over to MODx with a few adjustments and snippets.
