In an effort to compete with Wordpress and others I feel that MODx needs to allow users to manage their sites via the Ipad.

Can anyone update me on this feature request? Is there work going on to make this happen. I don’t want to switch my default CMS for clients to something else.

    Thanks.

Thanks Mr. Haw for the related threads. I had not seen some of them. I did find your other post on Remote Desktop as currently the only somewhat easy viable option for my clients who wish to edit there sites from the ipad. I’m planning on trying this out soon.

It looks like there is some good work going on to give us the ability to manage sites from the Ipad but out of those links the last posts seem to be about 6 months old. I’m wondering if there have been any other recent advancements made???

Hoping that someone is able to do the ’heavy lifting’ on this and take MODx to a new level. I would be most grateful. Thanks to those who have already spent hours on this!

        Cheers!

The version of webkit found on iPad does not support contentdeditable. See: http://developer.apple.com/library/safari/#technotes/tn2010/tn2262/index.html section 6. The solution is simple, disable TinyMCE (the simplest, but perhaps not the most elegant way, is to tell users to uncheck the "toggle editor" box when needed). See also: http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=21314 Apple has always been reluctant to support contenteditable, but it is part of HTML5 now, so they’ll have to.

As a side note, if you go looking in the usual place for when the various browser vendors started supporting it, you’ll find a comment http://www.quirksmode.org/blog/archives/2005/04/safari_13.html#c1811 by http://modxcms.com/about/team/rthrash/

            1. So if I disable TinyMCE via ManagerManager then I will be able to manage sites via Ipad?

            2. If I am in front of a computer I can check the "Toggle Editor" checkbox and TinyMCE will be available?

            3. So it is possible to use TinyMCE on a computer and not on an Ipad?

Finally....is this available for both Evo and Revo?

            Thank you for educating me.

              1) In Revolution there is a checkbox labeled "Toggle Editor." In Evolution it was a dropdown labeled "Editor to Use". In Revolution the option only applies to the resource content textarea. In Evolution it removed TinyMCE from all textareas until you saved the resource -- if the setting was to use rich text, TinyMCE would always be active the next time you edited a page (i.e. the dropdown acted as a per-edit toggle). In Revolution you can set the resource to use rich text but disable TinyMCE with the toggle and it will stay disabled until you toggle it on again. The switch/toggle only appears to be available when the rich text setting is enabled in the resource page settings (which is most likely your site default).

              2) I would continue to use rich text by default for resources if that is what your users prefer. Because the toggle is just a checkbox, turning off the editor while on an iPad won’t be a problem for them. If some resources are primarily edited via ipad but you still want an RTE from the desktop, leaving rich text enabled in the page settings and using the toggle as needed still seems like the most flexible option.

              3) Yes

              Finally...) Yes

              You’re welcome.

... as an alternate solution: in Evolution, you could have per user RTE settings, I assume the same is true in Revolution, but I haven’t needed to find out yet. Assuming it is, you could create a mobile user account for which the RTE is disabled globally. The only reason I can see for doing this is if you have a lot of rich text template variables, since they do not have a toggle (yet?) in Revolution.

I’m interested in making this work in Evolution and it sound like your alt method may be the best solution. Would I be looking in ManagerManager to turn off RTE for the mobile user?

Again my thanks for sharing your knowledge!

In Evolution, make a new user as usual.

Security > Manager Users > New User
                  or edit an existing user
Security > Manager Users > User Name

You’ll see a page called "Create/Edit User" with three tabs. Click the second tab, "User", to activate it and scroll down until you see "Editor to use"
Set the editor to "None" and click save.
