I’d like a media manager that allows plugins to hook into it and expand its use for third party services like flickr, youtube and more. I really like how Habari does this.

Just seen that on D.Peralty blog entry about MODx : http://peralty.com/2010/08/16/modx-admin-ui-thoughts/

Then i installed Habari to give a go.
While i dont like the organisation of the admin so much, i have to admit that the media manager is absolutely awesome!

        hi,

you should have a look at the pimcore cms assets management, it’s simply WOOOOOW.

Actually, after having installed and tested many many cms admin panels (or whatever they are called like manager for MODx) i still feel MODx one is the best organized one, maybe because it’s the one i do feel comfortable with..., i just only miss that assets management even if know why it nearly only exists on zend framework driven cms (automne, pimcore) smiley

i really thing working on something like that, just lack of time for the moment

They seems to use (pimcore) Extjs for their backend too.

          Can be interesting.
It look a little bit overfeatured on the screeshots though: http://www.pimcore.org/features/cms

yes, they use Ext js too for their backend, as some of the interesting zend driven cms (like automne, great one too).
this may change in a near future as Zend now comes with dojo toolkit, probably due to Ext licencing policy...

the feature that kills as we say in French smiley is there
            http://www.pimcore.org/features/asset-management

the url you gave shows something that is hard to illustrate with just a small screen cap, the wysiwyg inline edit (something else interesting ZF based cms seem to share)
Imagine something like quickEdit but with the ability to edit, drag and drop, delete ans so on, nearly each content/TV equivalent just clicking on it on your website page.
Sincerely, it’s something end users must love, actually, i did when trying those cms for fun... laugh

It would be difficult to implement in MODx (the inline editing) since the markup is totally free.
But it is indeed a nice feature.

It could be a nice feature request though:
              - Have some MODx API to allow components to be edited from the frontend.

                Hi,

yes, you’re right, this is not possible for alla kind of markup but it’s something you could imagine for content and TV that have text, textarea, richtext, or image as input format

in automne for example (a cms i’ve given a serious try before chosing MODx definitively) it the case for those kind of entries, module based content being managed with peculiar page in the admin.
They also implement that so useful asset/media management that seems to be something naturel with ZF and Ext.

Personally, to be honest, i’m far more interested in that media management, image resizing/cropping(/rotating) feature than in the inline edit one, i feel it a bit risky (particularly the drag and drop elements) depending on the client ability to be wise enough not to abuse... and, honestly, so far, MODx admin has enchanted every client that has had a try at it...

as soon as i have some time to play, i’ll have a look at this project
                http://code.google.com/p/extjsfilemanager/
and see how and if it could be implemented into Revo manager

not yet, i must admit that when it comes to gallery, i always write everything on my own to use my own php image resizing and cropping class (with renaming abilities to be easily able to keep three versions of an image for downloading, modal displaying and thumb generation purposes for example) but you’re making my mouth water smiley i’ll soon have a try at it !!

                      the same...

i’ve played with the gallery custom TV and i must say it’s really interesting and helpful...

Just a few things i would have done (i’m planning to do actually smiley) differently

                      - first, a TV is reaaly great when it comes to a small amount of images, one or two per page, else, your page is going to be a little complex
This have the server work a lot two as phpthumb does the job each time you load the page as it doesn’t actually generate the image on the server but applies what you ask him to do on the fly

I would see those features as an assets manager one, browsing the images, chosing one and then, resizing/cropping and so on, and then create it on the server.
this would make an image insertion with the RT easier.

of course, this implies that you must be able to rename or add a prefixe to the newly created image(s) not to overwrite the genuine one, an important feature

mainly the other things i’m planning to do (well, actually, what i already do in my custom made admins)
                      - the ability to drag the cropping area
                      - the ability to add ratio, maxSize and minSize to this cropping area
                      - the ability to set the final size by hand in form text inputs, this allowing you to chose a cropped area that will be resized to your wanted final size

now, you know what, i’ve just got to learn how to do all that with Ext to intergrate it in a Revo admin (in an Evo one, it’s just a piece of cake thanks to the iframe allowing me to do all that with my dear Mootools followed by my own php class smiley)

nevermind, great TV and thanks for suggesting me to have a look at it smiley
