Wouldn’t it be cool if someone made a MODx Manager like this:
http://desktop.sonspring.com the MODx OS
Here’s how he made it:

Perhaps also using a technology such as Bespin for the code editor:
https://bespin.mozilla.com
I know I’m dreaming here, but it would be very cool - imagine using a desk-top like interface to edit MODx Resources and managing images; third-party modules could be made to look like their own apps...

Funny thing is Nathan and I talked about that exactly a few months ago on the UI front.
Bespin seems interesting, but it’s not entirely clear on what all it does beyond code syntax highlighting. It certainly looks like so much more than just that. Any experience with Bespin?

I don’t have a ton of experience using Bespin, the main problem I ran in to was that its running on Python and had to get my web host to install a bunch of stuff on my server, and after all that it we never really got it working properly. And I’ve got no idea how well Python plays with PHP.
I personally think if you guys really did want to try and make a MODx OS/Manager like this Bespin might not be quite ready yet - and if you were going to have a "text editor" style "app"/module something like the Edit Area module would probably be fine.
