Just simple things like uploading and downloading documents for users, sorting and perhaps rollback/versioning.

Right now I’m making a new ’weblink’ and use a relative URL to the document in the assets/files/ directory for each document... perhaps I’m doing it wrong, but regardless...

For MODx Revolution, we have a new resource type: static resources. These are files that can be stored on the filesystem (even outside of webroot) and managed like a page in the tree.

Versioning will come after the initial release and is in the roadmap.

When you say documents you mean MODx documents or files in the file system? In resources menu there is the "Manage Files" UI that allows some level of file management. And the DocManager module allows sorting (drag and drop) of MODx documents. You can manage download files with the use of snippets or plugins. And the Resource Manager allows uploading of files and images.

Well, for example when working with many documents I prefer mass-uploading them with FTP. The Resource manager is too cumbersome (e.g. one file at a time). And something to easily include them in a document/page and list them (as links with download to the actual file) would be very nice too. And to let other users manage them: upload/remove/change, ...

So do I, images too, however it’s a pain when you are developing for a third party who doesn’t know how to FTP and then has to upload all the docs themselves!

in docManager: moving sets of documents/folders in/out of other folders/containers with the drag&drop method currently available for sorting.

Will this basic feature be in revo!?

I am sure I was doing it over a year ago with the help of some plugin (menuIndex!??); trying to search for it in the new repository fails!

Lukwe, Revolution has Resource (Document in 096x) sorting built into the doc tree via drag and drop. You can move documents and folders all over the place as well as manage the tree order right from the doctree without the need to use a Component (Module in 096).
