Extract the ID details for using in tags...

Not see this posted before but it really bugs me that you can’t do. Or maybe you can..

For example:
<ul id="localnav">
<li><a href="[~1~]" title="[~1:longtitle:~]">Home</a></li>
<li><a href="[~2~]" title="[~2:pagetitle:~]">About</a></li>
<li><a href="[~11~]" title="[~11:description:~]">Contact</a></li>
</ul>

So bascially when you use [~1:<something:~] for example it would extact that ID details that are assoicated with it. It bugs me that I can’t extact tags I’ve already set for that page... Might keep for more consistant SEO type stuff for pages.

Just a thought.

Use the GetField snippet. It can grab any field from a specified document id.

That said, generating the nav with Wayfinder is much more efficient, flexible, and makes your site more maintainable.

Thanks OpenGeek. Although you answered the request it would great if getField was built into MODx core and or added to Wayfinder. I think it would make single links and generated nav so much easier to maintain.

Wayfinder has access to what it needs for this already, and there is no reason to add overhead to the core for something that works brilliantly as a component IMO.

Fair do’s OpenGeek. I just installed getFields and it’s excellent something I’ve need to be using for so long. I think my point is aimed at ’how the heck have I not been using this before!!!’ because it will save so much time in the future. This is a keeper snippet!
