I would like to see an auto-update feature like they have in typolight (with or without a paid model)

They actually call it "Live update feature"

what it does is it will update your installation to the latest version if you choose to do so (ofcourse in the backend and if you have the proper privileges(sp?).

MODx will be releasing a remote package provider service in conjunction with 0.9.7 which can be used to deliver "transport packages" to your MODx deployment. These packages can consist of just about anything related to a MODx deployment, from the core data and files, to actual content, to user/permission data, to add-ons and extensions with installation/upgrade scripts. Of course it will depend on your privileges and hosting configuration, but manual download and placement of these packages will be almost as convenient.

In addition, in an effort to make MODx component development more attractive to freelancers and design/development shops, the provider service itself will be released as an add-on that you can install yourself into a MODx site, customize, and use to become your own remote provider of add-ons/extensions for MODx. Though this won’t be trivial to host, it will provide a great tool for migrating data and files between various deployments, be it for installation/upgrade purposes, or for delivering content/functionality updates across a traditional dev/staging/production workflow.

This is still in early development, especially for updating the core itself, but is definitely something we want to address. It is possible that we will make the core package only accessible to remote updates from a commercial service, similar to the typolight approach, but that remains to be seen.

              Thanks for the great suggestion.
