Does anyone out there know of a plugin for modx to implement a wiki? We are going to be working with a lot of NPO’s offering tech support and it would be nice to have a searchable wiki on the site...?

In my knowledge, MODx does not provide things like wikis or forums (even with extensions). This was one of my first questions on these forums since I was looking for an integrated system that provides wikis and forums. MODx is a "simple" CMS to create/store/manage content in terms of (mainly) web pages/feeds. MODx is not intended to be a replacement for heavyweight systems like Drupal. Even the modxcms.com site uses MediaWiki for its wiki and SMF for the forums.

You may be able to "bridge" a MODx site with other wikis or forums on your website so that users don’t have to login multiple times.

That’s really not true; we just don’t yet have the army of developers that Drupal or other "heavyweight" systems have creating all these full-featured, generic extensions (or bridges) and making them available for free yet. That will change as the platform gains more momentum, especially with MODx Revolution.

I implemented a simple textfile-based wiki extension for MODx many years ago, though it was certainly no MediaWiki replacement, it was very functional and met the requirements we had for allowing end-users to create entries in a "company directory" of sorts. I’ll see if I can dig it up this week, if it would be useful.

It really depends on your "wiki" requirements are on what the best solution is, IMO.

I’ve never much liked the Wiki implementations I’ve seen. It would be an interesting project to develop one that had a decent UI and sensible formatting and linking options. Call it MODxWiki and let it take over the Wiki world. wink

Wiki content collaboration with great hierarchical content organization would really be interesting to me, too.

I’d settle for one that used HTML formatting instead of the goofy Wiki codes. smiley
