    Hi, brand new to ModX and wonder if it has ability for this functionality.
    I need a dual language site where the menus and content are replicated in Spanish.

    Would I require 2 modx installs - one in English folder and one in Spanish folder and just create seperate templates or could I do:-
    Web ->
    --> English
    --> Spanish
    as folders then put the content in these folder?

    Has anyone done something link this ?

    Thanks

          My first MODx site (before it was even MODx) was done with it because I needed a site in four languages; the site is still going strong after several years and a few upgrades and template changes. I used a very basic version of the method outlined in the wiki post (second link).

          Now I’m doing another four-language site using YAMS; it’s impressive!

            @sottwell:

            I switched from YAMS to this method: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,29597.0.html
            the aliases are also translated with the "improved version".

            YAMS is nice, but the drawback is the many template variables that you have to create.

            I wanted also a method for image galleries which is more independant than MaxiGallery (which is always tied to the docId), such as Easy2Gallery 1.4

            How did you solve the galleries with your multi language files? How did you translate the captions for the image galleries?

              I haven’t gotten that far yet.

              I suspect that I’ll not be doing a lot of translation for that, as the images are going to be visitor-submitted. I’m not going to even try to translate somebody’s caption for their dog’s or their bunny’s picture.

              When I get to setting up the shop part I may have to hack E2G to make it able to use TVs for the titles and descriptions, as each product will have its own page. But I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.
