    Hi !
For now, we can create 2 types of elements that appear in the pages tree, documents and weblinks, what about adding image-documents ??

Then we would upload images, each one will have an id, they would be organized in (sub)folders, we could call them with a ditto-like snippet, and for example when we want to display an image in a page we could "call" it by simply typing [~pic:somepictureid~]

i know there is MaxiGallery, but maxigallery is designed to manage pictures albums, with pagination etc ..
i had also thought it would have been possible to manage images creating a new template which would have an image template variable, but for example if we want to display a given image, we would have to call ditto with a "where id=x" with a chunk containing [+theimagetv+], that’s a bit long ...

more generally, what about adding a file-documents, where the file can be an image, a flash animation, a "pure" file ... anything we could want to upload

My site is growing ( very slowly, but it is ! smiley ), i have a lot a pictures spread across my ftp, each time i want to display an image i have to fire up my ftp client to look for its location .... , an integrated picture management would be much welcomed

    thanks

Additional advantage would be a possibility for organizing the images/documents with metag tags etc., so a real (searchable) "picture management" could be achieved.

      Good idea!

so where would the files be stored on the ftp or in the database?
Would be good to store them on the ftp and use symboliclinks in the db like maxigallery does

I second that, they have to be stored on the ftp. Just the file data should be stored in the database. You could use the same table site_content, field content could be the path to the file, it would allow to store additional data in title, long title, description and so on. You could use the "isfolder" column for a third alternative 2 - "file" or add more possible file types... just thinking.

yes i agree, the uploaded files would be in the ftp, and the database would only contain the urls/paths to them, many cms already have an integrated picture management, modx really needs this i think

btw, if u use modx with a site displaying a lot of pictures ( not a gallery, but many pictures though ), how do you manage them ??

We use maxigallery for almost all images, no hassle that the client uploads a 5MB image. but than for older sites we used the resource browser.

for example, if i have to display several images, not in the same place ( not a gallery ), for example a picture a the very begining, one in the middle, on at the bottom of that page
i can do this with a single maxigallery call ??

_ the resources browser can only be accessed with fckeditor, isn’t it ?? if i use plain html editing mode, how do i access the resources browser ??
