I would really like som sort of list of upcoming features in 0.9.7 and 1.0. This because I have had som ideas for plugins/modules/snippets and have also read other persons ideas but shyed away from trying to implement them because of comments (mostly from Ryan from other mods) like this:
"Well if we needed to migrate data between significant changes though, our upcoming tools will handle that."
"This is however on the roadmap and will be a feature in the future."
"Chuck, that will be "just doable" with 0.9.7, beta soon after 0.9.6."
"Roki, what you are doing has already been done. It’s called MODx 0.9.7..."
"...and there will be even easier ways with the new MODx core coming in 0.9.7..."
"0.9.7 on the new core which will ultimately become that however is a different beast..."
Nobody wants to work with something just to find out (after several hours of work) that it has already been done in the "internal branch".
I can understand that some of you developers want to keep a few things secret (so no one else steals the ideas before you have properly implemented them) but at the same time you limit active development from the community to those who have "inside information" – just look at which modules/snippets/plugins are actively developed/updated and you’ll see that they are almost all part of either the "Coding Team", "Documentation Team" or "Testers".
I wouldn’t dare to invest more time than to make a simple hack to get something working for me because the extra time to document and make it costomizable etc. seems a waste of time when I keep having the feeling that there will be an "official, integrated, solution" released soon (Coding Team: We have a surprise!).
So, what I would want is:
- Outlines on what has been done for 0.9.7 and 1.0
- How these changes (in regard to 0.9.5) will affect current code and future code (I know there is a future-proofing topic on the wiki, but it doens’t really cut it)
- What is in the pipes for the future (it doesn’t have to be very detailed)
- Open access to 0.9.7alpha (it’s already used on xpdo.org and sottwell.com so it can’t be that unstable!)
- And when someone has an idea on the forum som remark like:
"The Coding Team has no plans now on implementing a feature like that – go for it and we might include it in the official release!" or "We have discussed this in the Coding Team but are not planning on implementing it ourselves any time soon." or "We are already working on a similar solution in the Coding Team, so unless you have a specific reason for your implementation or have come a long way already you could better spend your time on a nother idea/project".
Kind regards Carl
Any idea when 0.9.7 will be released?
