This is the swedish translation, I hope other Scandinavians understand as well. If not, we might have to change it smiley

@feary: Please post that translation in the topic: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,3349.msg23915.html#msg23915 otherwise it’ll most likely be burried under other posts and topics..

        Thanks.

Any consensus on what the Scandinavian translation should be?

If we don’t receive any objections I think the Swedish translation should work fine (but hey, i’m a swede wink). The questions is if English isn’t the proper language after all, as Scandinavians are generally well prepared for it.

I would also vote for the Swedish translation, but like feary, I too am biased.

According to studies made a few years back Swedes have a harder time understanding Norweigan and Danish than what the Danes and Norweigans have understanding Swedish (has a bit to do with greater exposure to Swedish media). Writing is of course easier to understand than speach so I don’t think any Scandinavians would have problems understanding topics written in any of the Scandinavian languages...

In regard to the proposed translation I would suggest changing it to the following (to conform with Sweidsh standards):

              Support / Support
              FAQ / Vanliga frågor
              Installation / Installation

              Off Topic / Ordet fritt

              Comments:

              • Words in a heading should not have a capitalized first letter (except the first word of course).
              • The abbreviation "FAQ" should be translated as "Vanliga frågor", but most Scandinavians wouldn’t think twice if we left it as "FAQ".
              • "Modules, Snippets etc" could also be translated but I don’t think it is worth the effort unless it also finds it’s way into the Docuemtation etc. Also I remember there being a post about the names perhaps changing in 1.0.
              • The English word "Community" is hard to translate to Swedish and the proposed translations (from Sv. datatermgruppen) are "intressegrupp", "webbforum" and "nätförening" which I don’t feel would work in this context. I propose using "Webbgemenskap" for "Community" in this case.
              • The previous "Uttalanden" translates to "Statements" or "Declarations", "Meddelanden" is a more correct term here.
              • "Hemsideverk" doesn’t feel like a very good heading. I think a better (although perhaps too long) alternative is "Visa upp dina webbsidor" which translates as "show your websites".
              • "Off Topic" isn’t an accepted Swedish term, even though it is widely used, and there isn’t a good translation for it. "Ordet fritt" was the best alternative I could find.

Edit: Updated for better readabilty. Changed "Frågor och svar" to "Vanlig frågor". Changed "Översättningar" to "Översättning".

This is a much better translation, you really nailed it.

I updated my post in the native language thread mentioned by zi (http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,3349.msg94956.html#msg94956)

PS. "Webbgemenskap", där måste du tagit dig en rejäl funderare wink Snyggt! DS.

Tack, jag kom precis på att "Vanliga frågor" kanske är en bättre term än "Frågor och svar"...

Vad tycker alla ni andra skandinaver egentligen?

Jag ändrade också "Översättningar" till "Översättning" i mitt inlägg ovan.

I agree too, this translation is better.

Regarding translation of Modules, snippets etc. These were translated in MODx before, but I changed that back to the original words. Some users found the translations confusing. My thought was that using the original words would make it easier to understand the documentation and the forums.

This is a great initiative. Let’s see how many we really are from this part of the world!

Jag gillar "Vanliga frågor" bättre än "Frågor och svar". Bra jobbat Carl.
