    Hi,

I don’t know if this has been discussed before (and if I’m sure it has been rejected. smiley ) or if something like this already exists.
At the moment I’m writing a site with MODx and I’ve got lots of Snippets for In/Output of non-standard things like a calendar, contacts database, guestbook.
But it would be much nicer to see all these things as Documents in the Document-Tree instead of having to write a module for managing them.
For example: Let’s assume a Snippet can create a new document type (with an own Icon) - e.g. the calendar:
Instead of having one big text field for the document there is now one Date-Field and a Description-Field for adding events to the calendar.
These events are stored as documents in the doc-tree.
Same for the guestbook: There would be a field for name, email, website,ip,icq, message instead of one big text field.
I would prefer these method for two reasons:
    1. I now have to write a lot of modules for handling the input to these snippets.
    2. Having them displayed in the Document-Tree is much more obvious and logical for the users.

I attached a fast mockup for demonstration.

Sounds like what TVs were intended for. Just make the TVs for the various data you want, assign the template your document uses, and viola... the fields are there for you to edit for each document. Ditto displays them nicely as placeholders, [+tvTVName+] (note the tv prefix to the TV’s name).
