    Hello!

I have downloaded the modx 1.03 evolution and started the installation process but when I click on the "Test database server connection and view collations." link on the database information page nothing happens and when I continue to click on the "next" link then I get a popup message asking that I need to test the database connection.

    What could be wrong?

    Thanks. Jupe

Have you created the database or are you having MODx create it for you?

        Hello,

I have already created the database and provided the database credentials on the form.

        Thanks, Jupe

Try using "Set Names" and click test again. I think I remember this happening to me once, but I don’t remember what I was doing that caused it. - I know, some help huh? undecided

            Hi,

I am not getting past the first request page where you provide the hostname, username and password. The second page is where you provide the database name and the "set names". I don’t know what could be wrong as I have been able to install it on a different machine running an older version of MySQL.

            Thanks.

I have moved the installed version from a desktop machine to a laptop and it doesn’t work on te laptop. I really need to get this MODx installation running on the laptop. Any help will be highly appreciated. I am using Easy PHP on Windows 7.

              Thanks.

                Just a friendly suggestion...

If you are not going to host on win 7 then I would strongly suggest you install a virtual machine environment that mirrors your potential planned or existing hosting env. I can’t begin to tell you how much grief and time that will save you.

VMware is not cheap (on windows) but it rocks. You could also just use SUN’s (ORACLE NOW) Virtual Box. Visit http://www.virtualbox.org to download a copy. Oracle plans to continue funding for this so you should be good.

Then install a linux VM (Cent OS, Redhat, Debian, Ubuntu, etc.. ). Check the requirements for php and mysql with Modx and make sure the VM host is configured as such. Then your off to the races. Of course your milage may vary but this works for me on my Win machines.. which are powered off most of the time. I use Vmware fusion to host my VM’s on a OS x desktop and MBP.

Thank you very much for your suggestion. I actually tried it in XPMode in Win 7 and it works. I will also try to install a virtual environment with an OS to mirror my planned hosting solution.

                  Thanks you very much.
