In fact, having looked at the general issue again, if I were to integrate any forum rather than cobble something together with Jot, it would now be bbPress -
http://bbpress.org - it’s not perfect, but it’s the closest to my vision I’ve ever seen.
I have been toying with Vanilla and bbPress and I kind of agree with you Paul...
Vanilla has been surrounded with buzz, but bbPress is kind of "straight to the point" and even lighter than Vanilla... and most definitely easier to administrate.
One thing I didn’t check yet is how bbPress goes about templates, but I was a bit disappointed at Vanilla’s templating...

Thanks, Paul - really appreciate the clarification on your current thinking.
i discussed with bs at irc a week ago about ideas how to use Jot to make a forum and we came to a conclusion that its actually possible already. Not in a very userfriendly manner though, you’d have to use phx, few custom modifiers and use Jot tag_id feature and custom fields to accomplish the ’threading’.. But i think no snippet modification is required. If anyone want’s to do it as a case study and write an wiki article how to set it up, feel free to ask pointers from me or bs. Don’t know how ’stable’ or efficient would the final result be on a busy site..

Just spoke with the mighty bS myself, and yes there are a number of ways to make a forum with Jot. Watch this space.
i am looking to include a forum in my site and I am open to testing jot as the solution. Point me in the right directions and I will give it a go.
Well, doze pointed out one direction. But Jot as currently available is not a solution in and of itself. It’s part of various potential solutions.
