Anyone in the development team evaluating Openid.net ?!
... a light-weight, decentralized authentication mechanism that allows you to have one login that you can use anywhere on the Internet.

By the way they’re also running a Code Bounty (5000$) for software projects that adopt OpenID

I had checked this out last year, back in my textpattern days, and there was a plugin to that effect. Ended up never using it.

The bounty is a nice idea but we don’t qualify :

      Bounty Eligibility*

We are hoping that in addition to the following requirements we will have the open source community nominate projects that they would like to see included in the bounty. To participate in the bounty, you must:

      * Distribute under an OSI-approved license.
      * Have at least 200,000 public internet users and 5,000 downloads per month.
      * Implement OpenID 2.0 support as a Relying Party (RP) or Identity Provider (IdP).
      * Pass the OpenID compliance testing tool (to be released in August 2006).
      * Make enabling OpenID no more difficult than changing one configuration setting (there can be more optional configuration settings).
      * Distribute the implementation as part of the project’s core (it cannot be an additional download or patch).
      * Place an OpenID logo in the signon form (as on this site).
      * Answer "What is OpenID?" (or link to an answer) near the signon form.

Does "public internet users" mean MODx users or vistors to all the MODx-powered sites in the world? ’Cos, like.. we could get to 200,000 easily if we counted things that way. And we could probably do 5,000 downloads if we released a point upgrade each month.
No, I don't know what OpenGeek's saying half the time either.

Actually, I’m seriously interested in OpenID, bounty or no. Specifically it is interesting because I have a bunch of friends on LJ, and if they could authenticate on my personal website using their LJ name (like mine is paulgregory.livejournal.com) that would be really cool.

The bounty, if paid up front (lol) would be useful to motivate the work, but otherwise, I already have plans to support multiple identity protocols including SAML, direct API, direct DB, and any others that use web services or can be connected to from PHP, rather than require the adoption of any particular one. In this model MODx or the external authentication service can be responsible for the data, it’s all up to how you need it configured.

Anyway, I’ve discussed this many times already, and the work is planned for 1.0.

Two links for those still interested in OpenID:
an introductory screencast explaining how to use it
and a PHP library to implement it

                  OpenID looks interesting and promising.

Regardless of the bounty, it would be very cool if modx supports openID.

For people creating public community sites, this would mean instant membership of thousands of people.

                    Hello,
I have seen this thread and here is a little snippet, based on WebLogin, that allows to login with openid. I hope it can help before version 1.0 of MODx.

Its use is very similar than WebLogin.
