this way its easy to tell the client how many pages you have made for him and how many he needs to pay for that
Fine for the first bill, but when he asks you to remove 12 pages and add 47, you’ll need to have kept track because the new total is only 35 more than the old one. Unless you had a TV for the remaining balance on each document. Actually, a billing module would be really useful...
Anyway, I like the idea of totals, but I’m just not sure the doctree pane is the best place for it - I wouldn’t really want to be running those queries every time.
Interresting idea...
+1 about the billing module...
I had come accross
phpBMS but never got around to test it...
I had also discovered an online web service, very 37signal-ish but I lost the url
Edit : Got it back :

You mean you still bill clients according to how many pages there have ?
As far as I am concerned, I bill them according to how many different templates I have to build. Number of pages has little significance for me since the client deals with the content, not me. On the other hand, if they want many different templates, or custom content fields (TVs), speficic content sorting, it’ll cost them.

Not all clients deal with all the content themselves! If someone is "still" billing clients based on the number of pages, it probably means that the client is *not* adding pages themselves. If I’ve written copy and sourced/created images for a page myself, I’m going to charge for it.
It would be great to be able to track the work done in MODx to create an itemised bill - something that could be exported to another system (as a web designer is likely to have a centralised db for billing, each client install only needs to export some sort of ’log book’). It will always need to be added to the out-of-MODx work like design etc.
Presently, counting pages is a good way to go. I just happen to think some pages are worth more than others!

Yeah OK, then.
Never had the case so far, but I am fairly new to the business. The whole point of a CMS is to empower clients to deal with the content themselves. What I charge though is custom documentation (screen captures of the client website) and training.
This being said, I can see the logic of charging pages if you do have to handle content yourself, yes...
