I’m a new Modx user and I really like ModX. but no matter what I want to do it have been really hard to find answers in the documentation or on the forum. For me and I’m sure for many others the east way to get started should be to see how things working on a demo site. I don’t know much about security issues but should it not be possible to set up a demo site where all users have access to the admin area but the database and all files are write protected. In that case the users of the demo could look at all existing modules snippets and chunks and how they are integrated in Modx but not change anything. For me this should be the absolutely easiest way to understand this system. What do you think about this and is it some technical problems to create such a solution?

I wouldn’t want to set up that type of demo site at the moment. Opensourcecms.com has a demo install of MODx there that’s open and modifiable, but it’s the same content you’ll find in the demo install. The next release will have more in depth content.

Yes i know about the demo at Opensourcecms.com but it is only a standard installation and don’t give you nothing if you want to know for example how different snippets working and are integrated in ModX. I have a web host and could set up and provide a demo for a few month if I only knew if it safe to put up such a service? I can’t see the problem if I don’t give any write permission to MySQL database?

If you created a role that only allowed looking at things, but not saving, editing, or deleting, and made that login public, it should be safe enough.

combined with not allowing writes to teh db would be good, although the attempts to do so would probably make the manager go nuts
