Forums/Calendar fed from document tree

Would it be possible to create forums and calendars using snippets similar to Ditto? For example,

if I call [[Forum? &startID=7 &multilevel=1 ...]], it would grab all content under folder 7 and present it in tables like a forum, with first level as category, second as subcategries, third as topics and fourth as replies. NewsPublisher could be used to post topics ans replies.

if I call [[Calendar? &startID=7 &multilevel=1 ...]], it would grab all content under folder 7 and present it into a calendar from "createdon".

You could definitely do that. Although I wouldn’t want to manage a large forum built in this manner, for very low-volume stuff it would certainly work.
