I just ran into a situation which was a near disaster. I had spent about an hour writing an article for one of my websites. When I finished the article, I went to save it. Instead of saving the document, it went to the login screen because my session had expired.

Fortunately, I know enough about cached POST variables to have been able to recover my work by backing up in my browser to the page that was supposed to submit the information. This time, since my session was renewed, it submitted the variables successfully, and my work was recovered.

The problem here should be obvious, however. Many people wouldn’t know to do this, and before they could be taught, they would ruin their opportunity for recovery. So I’m wondering if something can be developed to auto-save work. I’m guess that the team is already working on something like this, since you’re pushing so hard to make this the AJAX CMS of choice. But I did a quick search and didn’t find anything, so I thought I would throw the suggestion in just in case.

    Thanks.

      Please review this thread: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,4398.0.html

I’m not sure auto-save is the appropriate answer in all cases here; that brings up other issues, especially when we start dealing with publishing workflow, translations/localization, and revisioning. Not to say that this could not be an easy to implement add-on, but I believe extending the user sessions and some other tricks of the trade mentioned in that thread on extending the timeout on manager user sessions will address the problem from a slightly different angle.
