I don’t like WYSIWYG editors. I like to have a constant watch on how my final markup is going to look. On the other hand, I’m not crazy about typing out html tags all the time either.
My favorite type of editor is a quicktags type, like the default Wordpress editor, or even something similar to the editor used in these forums. When you click the bold button, for example, rather than making your type look bold, it actually produces the tags necessary to create the effect, so that you don’t have to type them out. Then you can type what you want in them, or you can just highlight something, click the button, and it will surround your selection with the tags.
Has something like this been created for MODx? Or is there a modular solution out there, like FCKEditor or TinyMCE, except for this type of solution? I know about Alex King’s Quicktags javascript, and I may look into turning that into a module. It would be nice to have something a bit more versatile, to where you could actually insert images and such, like you can with FCK, but instead of having a WYSIWYG view, you just see, and are able to manipulate, the raw code that it produces.
I appreciate the reply, Ryan. I checked into those, and actually have the textile plugin and the markdown plugin installed. But those aren’t exactly what I’m talking about. The main problem with those is that they translate the page when the page is called on the front end. If I call the content of a page from another page, using Ditto for example, they won’t get translated, will they?
What I’m actually asking for is something similar to the post interface of Wordpress, where you actually have buttons that, when pressed, generate standard html tags of various types. It would also be nice to have a few advance features, such as the ability to hit an image button, and have the image browser be pulled up, where you can upload and select an image, and some simple code for that image will be placed in the textarea.
I hope that makes sense, and thanks again.
