Hi, just had a (perhaps weird) idea smiley

If (like I read somewhere) the manager is rebuild without frames/tables and is only CSS-based, why not extend the TVs with positioning capabilities... At the moment you can sort their appearance (except the document content which is always above the TVs), but wouldn´t it be cool to position them on the edit-overview? For example if you have defined an image, an intro text, the content, a sidebar text and two addtional (related) links as TVs it would be cool to position them like on the image attached.

For doing this it would be neccessary for each TV to define some properties like position (x/y), size (height/width)... And perhaps (two steps further) you could position them via Ajax-drag&drop tongue Also the editing from the frontend could be made like this. It opens a popup where all editable areas are shown for the editor (perhaps with a live preview underneath the edit-area laugh

The benefit is obvious: Although you can define a descritpion for every TV, it would be more usable for clients who don´t know anything about how the things match together.

Just a thought last night wink

Nice thought, but after trying to code a server application using AJAX, I wil definitely say that it’s hard. lol grin

I think the idea of each TV has their own positioning x and y is really2 great, but having a field for ordering will be enough I believe. In the future, if somebody willing to take it to the next level by having a flexible positioning, that will be great.

Any thought on this, all the core developers? grin
