Sideblogs would be great.
I’m working on a site where I need to put an event on the sidebar. That event would be written by the site owner (his html knowledge is really poor) and I don’t want to show the post in the blog.
Maybe it’s already possible, but I just download MODx and I’m not a developper.

In your document tree you can create two folder, for example :
news id 3 : the start ID of the blog
[!NewsListing? &tpl=`NewsListingTemplate` &startID=`3`!] --> show only the post of news folder
events id 4 : the start ID of the sideblog
[!NewsListing? &tpl=`SideblogTemplate` &startID=`4`!] --> show only the post of events folder
