Would it be possible to introduce approval chains into modx as I have a requirement for users to create content and be able to preview it but not put it live until it has been reviewed by a different user.  This separation of duties will mean that the content is idiot checked and any potentially damaging content can not be put live by any one unique user without being checked.

    Regards

This is on the roadmap for sure but I am not sure of its current status. Ryan?

I’d say this is a highly desireable feature, as I have been asked for exactly the same thing!

This can be achieved by using document groups, though there is no built in feature to handle this. In other words, you could review the portions of the site that are in the "need to be approved" document group only as an admin or a member of a specific user group with access to it. Then create a process by which someone could review and approve those documents. Though, by moving it out of the "need to be approved" group and into public access (or another group for secure access), you can still approximate the same end result. Same principles to create the chains, just moving from one document group to another; this is where a custom module for managing these actions might come in handy.

Only problem is forcing users to publish into that document group, but this might be best accomplished by starting with the NewsPublishing snippet.\

          Food for thought anyway...

I second that a workflow would be nice smiley It’s an important part of newspublishing and I agree with Jason this could be handled by the NewsPublishing snippet.

The ultimate solution of course is real (simple) workflow in the core manager. This is a very clever and cool workaround though. smiley

This would be brilliant and help me take it to clients and my CMS of choice.

I really need a type of role that can edit published documents and save them for approval which another user does.

Is this possible at the moment?
