One more post about integration, this time about Project Management, as i think this activity would be helpful for the MODx community. Furthermore, that’s also a thing i plan to install for offering MODx project management among others things.

Here is a retrospective for those who want to have a look around, investigate and discuss :

    Groupware
    1. eGroupware http://www.egroupware.org/ http://www.idots2.org/index.php?id=0
    2. GroupOffice http://www.group-office.com/index.php?folder_id=1&file_id=376
    3. Browser CRM http://www.browsercrm.com/welcome.php#
    4. opengroupware http://www.opengroupware.org/en/about/sponsor.html

    Portal Projects
    1. gForge http://gforge.org
    2. Savane https://gna.org/projects/savane
    3. SiteForge http://www.simian.ca/index/open-source

    Community Projects
    1. dotProject http://www.dotproject.net
    2. Streber http://streber.sourceforge.net/
    wiki http://wiki.pixtur.de/index.php/Main_Page
    3. WebAsyst http://www.webasyst.net
    4. Copper http://www.copperproject.com/
    5. NetOffice http://netoffice.sourceforge.net/index.php

Personaly and as a first step, i plan to adopt DotProject for my community work, interesting with the following dotProject extensions : http://sourceforge.net/projects/dotmods/

    Backup module http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=70930&package_id=100129

    Eventum http://www.dotproject.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=3142
    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=70930&package_id=159274&release_id=345568

    Invoice Module http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/...tar.gz?download

    Links http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=70930&package_id=100129
    Risks http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=70930&package_id=156959
    HelpDesk http://www.tatersalad.org/dp/helpdesk.zip http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/dotmods/helpdesk/

Later on, if there are enough contributors, another web site built with gForge.

Anyway, are there some people who plan a project management MODx integration ? Perhaps by choosing one of the mentioned solution ?

guizmo, once again an interresting post !
I am going to bookmark you grin

I’ll let Ryan answer about Project management, since we already had a discussion about this and I know some nice things are in the hopper...

About those apps, I use phpCollab but development seems to have come to a halt after the main dev left... NetOffice si so similar my bet is it’s a fork of phpCollab...

I had dropped Dotproject, but it seems the new version is making some headway, a MODx module could be nice, agreed smiley But for me, the benchmark in project management is Basecamp: no cluttered stacked-up features like to many of those project tools => see egroupware... I like basecamp for the nice use of AJAX, clean interface and smart approach of needed-only features...

PHP Collab were the first i discovered and had hopes in it but didn’t move a lot, didn’t have enough features i were looking for so i quickly move to its fork Netoffice. Unhappily, NetOffice suffered from the same destiny as PHP COllab and one of the main contributor leaves the project to do what should have been NetOffice 3 built on PHP5, this became Streber which is still in its early stages. On the other way, he works alone so i don’t know what can be its future. That’s the typical application i would have seen built with Prado, eventually with Modx objectives.

I keep an eye on it by waiting for a better PHP5 support. For me, it’s not the ideal choice but it still the most featured and well organized script i looked into.

I tested Bascamp but i had difficulties to adopt it in terms of ergonomy and capabilities. Furthermore, it’s a price level access per month if i remember well.
The actual good example in terms of ergonomy and promising features for me is the opensource webasyst but it’s very expensive to obtain the lifetime licence.

Depending of what Ryan has in its basket of presents, an idea could be to invite the developer of Streber to develop a solution together.

I’m open to all things. Project managment is a definite plan down the road, but priorities put it in the "later" category right now.

I really like a lot of what the 37signals folks do, btw. smiley

ok, tell me when it will be time and if you’re interested in me to contact the developers of Webasyst and Streber to make something "compliant" to MODx.

FYI, I have used it for several months and my clients actually used it from the start, no training needed, and it greatly improved my project management efficiency. ActiveCollab goes straight to the essential, does it right and has a nice community and great plans for the future smiley

PHP5 hosting is not so hard to find as it was 6 months ago (pretty standard now, even in France tongue)
