    Adobe has released the new CS5 Suite (for those who can afford it.)

    Dreamweaver CS5 supports some Content Management Systems like Wordpress, Drupal and Joomla.

    I have no idea how well Dreamweaver "supports" these PHP systems. But its an interesting development.

    * How did Adobe go about adding this support?
    * Will other systems be added?
    * What about MODx?
    * WIll it it be possible to add the CMS of your choice into Dreamweaver somehow?
    * Adobe updates the CS Suite every 18 months or so. How do new versions of the CMS platforms fit into this product cycle?
    * Will clients and businesses gravitate to the Wordpress, Drupal and Joomla camps if they use Dreamweaver?
    * Is this a good thing?

    I have not really used Dreamweaver in years. I own the ADobe Suite but I find Dreamweaver very complicated and bloated to use. I build all of my projects by hand using TextMate. I find knowing XHTML and CSS is a better skill than knowing a software program like Dreamweaver.

    I like turning on other people and clients to MODx but I am wondering if this development changes things???

    Thoughts?

      This could, I suppose, bring more designers into the MODx fold, which is a laudable goal.

      Still, I’m biased: I have spent too many hours fixing Dreamweaver code, which I can now almost detect by its odor. And when someone puts CSS into MODx from Dreamweaver (possibly through an FTP component?) it has an extra line break for every single line, which makes for some long, long, files that I must take out and fix so that they’re readable. Maybe the latest Dreamweaver has fixed this. [End of Rant]

        I’m just going through DW CS5 now. Sure, maybe there are still some shortcomings but the bottom line is that DW CS5 makes designing and authoring generally much, much better and easier.

        As a community, we should be working towards:

        1. Document everything in terms of using DW CS5 woth MODx. Perhaps a new Wiki section?
        2. Ride the momentum this will likely create to a point where Adobe will integrate MODx as they have for Joomla, Wordpress and Drupal.

        I’m both subjective and new(er) to MODx than most of you, and still have a ton to learn, but this should be a crusade that we all engage to make happen!
