I love everything about this place...excepting the weak search function. It’s really hard to find stuff here! Searching in the top right box rarely produces any results, and the results from the box you’re then sent to are usually old’n’moldy. Best results are gotten from Google search "site:modxcms.com [search topic]" but that’s...outside.

Also, I open the site, I login at top right, then I get to forum and I have to log in again - but shouldn’t I already be logged in?

Just thought I’d mention. I don’t mean this to sound as though I don’t appreciate enormously all the diligent work that goes on here, and all the support. I do!!! grin

Our SMF forums have separate user accounts from the accounts on the main site; you only need an account on the main site if you want to submit/contribute something to the project or parts of the site outside the forums. The complexity of integrating the user accounts bidirectionally with SMF has forced us into this situation for the time being, but we will be addressing this later this year.

And yes, the SMF search functionality leaves a lot to be desired. I always use Google to search the site.

Thanks, OG! Appreciate your explanations (but you of all peeps shouldn’t be admitting you search outside the MODx box!)

        wink

You guys do amazing work. Thank you very much for all your time and effort. grin
        • This forum is not MODx. It is Simple Machines forum. See the link at the bottom of the page.

Poking around a dusty topic tongue

I’ve myself too noticed the crippled search function of the SMF system. Usually you can’t find anything, and yes, you must use Google. But other users have also noticed this and have created modifications. I have never used these so I can’t vouch for them, but (a bit ironically) there is a http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1930"" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Google search mod and also a "basic" http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=887"" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">search enhancement mod (supports version 1.1.8 and has last been updated about half a year ago).

It really is a shame that this forum doesn’t have a good search function. There really is much useful information that just can’t be found very easily. But luckily MODx community has a very long fuse and responds even if the same question would be asked ten times within a day smiley
              • The forum used to have the Google search mod, but then there were some upgrades or something and the Google search mod went away.

                • Rest assured this search problem, and many other very important things are being addressed.
