I have a current site and a new site, which is not "live" yet.  I’m porting over the current site content to the new site that is running on MODx.

    Current site is www.mysite.org

    New site is new.mysite.org

When ready, I can rename the new site to www.mysite.org, getting rid of the "new" part, and making the new content live.

IN OTHER WORDS:  Same physical site.  Just changing the subdomain.

Simple question, since I’ve installed MODx on new.mysite.org, what changes do I need to make (if any) in MODx to make sure that my site (which now works on new.mysite.org) will then run on www.mysite.org?

All I need is a simple reference to the correct doc or wiki page or forum post. Or an explanation here. Thanks.

Did you move your modx install from subfolder to root, or do you want a subfolder acting as root?

The only changes are in your htaccess ---> http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Moving_Site_To_Another_Location

Short answer: I installed MODx in the root. /var/www/

Longer answer: The two sites (www.-- and new.-- ) are on two separate servers. The ISP wants to migrate our site from an older IIS server to a new Apache Linux server (virtual server, of which I have total control). I have a couple of months when both sites/servers are up. I’m starting to build the MODx driven site (new.--) on the Apache server. When I’m done and ready to commit the site to the public, they’ll rename it to www.-- and delete the old server files on the IIS, pointing the domain to the new server.

Again, the MODx files, database, or any files will not physically move. They’ll just be pointed to by a different sub.domain.

(I admit I know little about that whole process. Heck, I know little about any process. I’m a musician building a church site.)

I just don’t want to put too much work into it if it means I’ll have to re-install, re-build it when the site is renamed.

        Thanks.

          In case of failure...

Take backup of all your files and database, maybe use Backupmodx app (havent tried it yet). So if things stop working you
can make an upgrade install and fix it. Then upload the install folder and be sure to NOT select "install demo page"...

Changing the domain prefix should be pretty straight forward. As long as you do not have any hard coded links in the site which reference new.yoursite.org. If you do you wil have to change these to www.... at the changeover. Other than that all you need to do is refresh the cache in the manager I believe. Modx dynamically works out what the site url is in the config.php file.
